A November Home Cleaning Checklist for Regina Homes
November in Regina is the handover month. The yard work is done, the furnace is running properly, the first real snow is somewhere on the calendar, and the holidays are close enough to plan for. Here's a checklist that fits the month, organized so you can do it a week at a time instead of all at once.
Week One: Finish the Outside Jobs
Everything in this section becomes impossible once the ground freezes hard, so this is the week for it.
- Last sweep of the deck, steps and walk — leaves left under snow turn into a slick mat by spring
- Bring in hoses, garden tools and anything in the yard that shouldn't spend winter outside
- Clear the front step and the gutter line over the door, where ice tends to form first
- Check the dryer vent hood outside is clear and opening freely
- Put the shovel, the ice scraper and the salt where you can reach them, not behind the summer gear
- Last interior window clean before storms go on and cold makes the job unpleasant
Week Two: The Entryway Becomes the Most Important Room
From here until April, your entry takes everything. Build it now.
A proper setup has three layers: a coarse scraper mat outside, a long absorbent mat inside, and a boot tray with a raised lip. The lip matters — that's what keeps melted snow and salt off the floor.
Also this week:
- Clear the closet so winter coats actually fit
- Set up a spot for wet mitts and toques to dry
- Put down a runner if the hallway floor off the entry is hardwood
- Keep a small broom or hand vac by the door
On road salt: wipe it up before it dries. Salt residue left on hard flooring dries to a white film that's harder to remove and can be rough on finishes. Warm water and a well-wrung mop, following your floor manufacturer's recommendations, is the routine for the next five months.
Week Three: Air, Dust and the Furnace
The furnace is now running most of the day, and whatever is in the house is going around with it.
- Change the furnace filter, and note the date somewhere
- Vacuum every heat register and cold air return, including the ones under furniture
- Check nothing is blocking a return — a rug, a bed skirt or a couch across one makes the whole system work harder
- Wet-wipe the blinds. They hold more dust than any other surface in a prairie home, and dry dusting mostly moves it to the floor
- Dust high first: fan blades, light fixtures, tops of door frames and tall furniture
- Wash bedding and vacuum mattresses, since the bedroom is where dry air and dust are most noticeable
- Clean humidifier units on the manufacturer's schedule if you run them
Prairie winters are dry indoors, and condensation on window glass is the other side of that coin. Wipe the bottom of the glass and the sill when you see it rather than letting it sit on wood all winter.
Week Four: Get Ahead of December
This is the week that decides whether the first half of December is calm or frantic.
- Deep clean the kitchen before the cooking season — inside the oven and inside the fridge are the two that matter most
- Clear fridge and freezer space for what's coming
- Get the guest room usable, not just empty
- Clean the guest bathroom properly, including the shower glass and the hard water on the taps
- Wash the good linens and the table linens now, not the night before
- Bring decorations up and wipe the bins before they come into living space
- Book your December cleaning, because the three weeks before the holidays fill up early
The Monthly Baseline
Underneath the seasonal jobs, the usual rhythm still applies:
- Weekly: bathrooms, kitchen surfaces, vacuum and mop, change bedding, entry floor
- Every two weeks: dust all surfaces, mirrors, switch plates and handles
- Monthly: baseboards, inside the microwave, behind and under furniture, light fixtures
- This month specifically: furnace filter, blinds, entry setup, holiday prep
The Five-Minute Winter Habits
Small things that keep November from compounding:
- Boots off at the door, onto the tray, every time
- Wipe the entry floor whenever it's wet, not at the end of the week
- Shake the mats out weekly
- Run the bathroom fan during and after showers — dry air outside doesn't mean dry air in a bathroom
- Keep one surface in the main living space permanently clear
Where a Professional Clean Fits
November is one of the two busiest months of the year for cleaning, and the one where a schedule does the most work for you. If it's been 30 days or more since the last thorough clean, or this is a first visit, start with a deep clean and move to standard cleans after. Every 2 weeks saves 15%; every 4 weeks saves 10%.
Good add-ons for this month: wet-wipe blinds ($40), interior windows ($30), inside oven ($30) and inside fridge ($30) ahead of the holidays.
Pricing is flat-rate rather than hourly, from $149 + GST for a 1 bed / 1 bath, plus $25 per additional bathroom. Get your price in about 30 seconds.
