How Long Does a House Cleaning Take in Regina Homes?
It's the question almost everyone asks before booking, and the honest answer is that it depends on more than square footage. Here's a realistic picture of what drives the time, and why with flat-rate pricing the number matters less than you'd think.
The Short Answer by Home Size
These are general ranges for a standard clean of a reasonably maintained home, with one cleaner:
- 1 bed / 1 bath condo or apartment: roughly 2 to 3 hours
- 2 bed / 1 bath: roughly 3 to 4 hours
- 3 bed / 2 bath house: roughly 4 to 5 hours
- 4 bed / 3 bath house: roughly 5 to 7 hours
A deep clean generally runs about one and a half to two times a standard clean for the same home. A move in / move out clean is usually the longest of the three, because the cupboards, closets, appliances and inside surfaces are all in scope and the home is empty enough to reach everything.
Treat all of these as estimates. The spread between two identical floor plans in the same Harbour Landing crescent can be an hour or more.
Bathrooms Matter More Than Bedrooms
This surprises people. A bedroom is mostly surfaces and floor; a bathroom is detailed, scrubbing work in a small space, and it takes real time to do properly.
That's why pricing here is built around beds and baths rather than square metres, and why an extra bathroom adds $25 while an extra bedroom often adds less time than you'd guess. Two bathrooms in a 1,200 square foot house can take longer than one bathroom in a 1,800 square foot house.
What Actually Changes the Time
How recently it was last cleaned. The biggest single factor. A home on a two-week schedule cleans in a fraction of the time of one that hasn't had a thorough clean since spring.
Clutter on surfaces. Not judgment, just arithmetic. Every object on a counter is a lift, a wipe underneath and a place-back. A clear surface is one pass.
Pets. Hair gets everywhere, and vacuuming a home with a shedding dog takes meaningfully longer, particularly on upholstery and stairs.
Hard water. Regina's water leaves mineral deposits on glass, taps and fixtures, and shifting built-up scale is slow, patient work rather than a quick wipe.
Season. Right now, entryways, floors and mats take longer than they do in July, and that only increases once salt and slush arrive.
Floor type and layout. Stairs, multiple levels, and a mix of carpet and hard floors all add time. Open-plan main floors go faster.
Add-ons. Inside the oven ($30), inside the fridge ($30), inside cabinets ($20), interior windows ($30), wet-wipe blinds ($40) and dishes ($20) each add to the visit — most of them 20 to 45 minutes depending on condition.
First Visits Take Longer
A first clean is almost always the longest one, and that's expected. It's the visit that catches up on everything that's accumulated — which is exactly why a deep clean is recommended for a first visit, or any time it's been 30 days or more since the last thorough clean.
After that, the home starts from a better baseline and subsequent visits settle into a predictable rhythm.
Why Flat-Rate Changes the Question
With hourly pricing, the clock is the price, which means a slower visit costs you more and nobody has an incentive to be efficient. It also means you can't actually know the price until it's over.
YQR Cleaning is flat-rate instead. You know the price before anyone arrives, and if a bathroom takes longer than expected, that's not your problem. The duration becomes a scheduling question rather than a budgeting one — it only matters for planning your day.
Planning Around the Visit
A few practical things:
- You don't need to be home. Most clients use a lockbox or leave a key. Many book a cleaning for a work day and come home to it done.
- Pick up the floor beforehand if you can. Twenty minutes of tidying can take real time off the visit and means more of it goes to actual cleaning.
- Flag your priorities. If the kitchen matters most this week, say so.
- Pets: let us know. Some pets are happier in a closed room during a visit.
- Parking is worth mentioning in older neighbourhoods like Cathedral or Lakeview, where winter street parking can be tight.
A Rough Rule of Thumb
If you want one number to plan around: budget about an hour per bedroom plus an hour per bathroom for a standard clean, and add about half again for a deep clean. It's imperfect, but it's close enough to plan a day around, and the quote tells you the actual price regardless.
Where a Professional Clean Fits
If it's been a while, start with a deep clean, then move to standard cleans on a schedule — that's where the time per visit drops and stays down. Every 2 weeks saves 15%; every 4 weeks saves 10%. Moving? Move in / move out cleans are their own service and are built for an empty home.
Pricing is flat-rate, not hourly, from $149 + GST for a 1 bed / 1 bath, plus $25 per extra bathroom, and you can get your price in about 30 seconds. You can also read more about us.
