A Realistic Weekly Cleaning Schedule for Regina Homes
Most cleaning schedules fail for the same reason: they assume a Saturday nobody actually has. A schedule that works spreads the load thin enough that no single day is a write-off, and it accepts that some weeks you'll only hit the basics. Here's a structure that holds up in a Regina house through a prairie winter.
The Daily Reset: Fifteen Minutes
The point of a daily pass isn't to clean. It's to stop mess from compounding, because a counter wiped tonight takes ten seconds and the same counter on Thursday takes five minutes.
- Dishes into the dishwasher and the sink emptied before bed
- Kitchen counters and the stovetop wiped down
- Flat surfaces cleared — mail, bags, that one chair
- A quick sweep of the entry, which matters most from November on
- Meltwater wiped up rather than left to sit on the floor
- Boots onto the tray, coats onto hooks
- One load of laundry started or moved along
Fifteen minutes split between whoever's home. If you do nothing else on a given day, do the kitchen and the entry.
A Room a Day Through the Week
Instead of one long cleaning day, give each weekday one room. Twenty to thirty minutes, timer on.
Monday — Kitchen. Wipe the fronts of the appliances, the backsplash and the cabinet doors around the handles. Wipe out the microwave. Take the garbage and recycling out. Mop the floor.
Tuesday — Main bathroom. Toilet, sink, counter, mirror, tub or shower, floor. In that order, so you aren't carrying bathroom germs upward.
Wednesday — Living areas. Dust high to low, vacuum including under the furniture edges, fluff and straighten, wipe the remotes and light switches.
Thursday — Bedrooms. Change the sheets, dust the surfaces, vacuum, and clear whatever has accumulated on the dressers.
Friday — Floors and the catch-up list. Vacuum and mop the rest of the house, plus whatever you missed earlier in the week. If the week went sideways, this is your recovery day.
Weekend — Laundry and one bigger job. Finish the laundry, and pick a single item off the monthly list below. One job, not five.
The Monthly Rotation
These are the jobs that keep a house from slowly getting dingier, and you only need one per weekend.
- Wipe the baseboards and door frames
- Clean the interior windows in one or two rooms
- Vacuum the furniture, including under the cushions
- Wash the mats, throws and cushion covers
- Wipe down the inside of the fridge and toss what's expired
- Clean the oven and the range hood filter
- Dust the ceiling fans and light fixtures
- Wipe the switch plates, handles and screens
- Clean the washer's door seal and detergent drawer, and vacuum the dryer lint housing
- Change the furnace filter
Write the list somewhere visible and work down it in order.
The Regina-Specific Jobs
A schedule built for a milder climate will miss several things that matter here.
October to April. Sweep the entry daily and wash the mats weekly, because road salt and grit are the main thing making your floors look worse. Expect the entry to need more attention than any other part of the house.
Through the heating season. Change the furnace filter on schedule, dust more often than feels necessary — forced air keeps fine dust circulating — and vacuum the cold-air returns monthly.
Spring thaw. Expect several weeks of mud. Double up on entry mats and accept that the floors near the door need a daily pass.
Summer and harvest. Prairie wind and field dust mean window sills, screens and the tops of door frames collect grit quickly. Add them to the monthly rotation in the warm months.
Year-round. Hard water in Regina leaves scale on taps, shower glass and kettles. Wiping those dry after use is far easier than descaling them later.
Make It Fit Your Actual Household
A schedule only works if it matches the house it's written for.
- Pets? Add a second vacuum day and keep a lint roller where the hair collects.
- Kids? Give each one two or three jobs that are genuinely theirs, and lower the hooks and bins so the jobs are possible.
- Working long shifts? Drop to the daily reset plus two room days, and let the rest ride until a recurring clean picks it up.
- Living alone in a smaller place? Combine the week into two sessions of forty minutes.
- Hosting often? Move the living areas and the main bathroom to the day before guests arrive instead of midweek.
When the Schedule Isn't the Problem
Sometimes there isn't enough time in the week, and no amount of restructuring fixes that. With a cleaner handling the floors, bathrooms, kitchen and dusting on a rotation, your own list shrinks to the daily reset and the laundry — a list most households can actually keep.
Where a Professional Clean Fits
A standard clean covers the kitchen, bathrooms, floors, dusting and the living areas. If it's a first visit or it's been 30 days or more, start with a deep clean and move to standard visits after. Every 2 weeks saves 10%; every 4 weeks saves 5%. Add-ons like inside the oven ($45), inside the fridge ($45) or interior windows ($45) let you hand over the monthly jobs too.
Pricing is flat-rate, not hourly, from $120 + GST for a 1 bed / 1 bath, plus $30 per additional bathroom. Get your price in about 30 seconds.
