Questions to Ask Before Hiring a House Cleaner in Regina

October 20, 2026 · 5 min read · YQR Cleaning

Hiring someone to clean your house means handing over access to your home, so it's reasonable to ask a few pointed questions before you book. Most of them can be answered in a couple of minutes, and the answers tell you a lot. Here's what's actually worth asking, and what a straight answer sounds like.

"How Does Your Pricing Work?"

This is the first question, because it determines whether you can trust the number you're given.

Hourly pricing means the final cost depends on how long the visit takes, which you don't control and can't predict. A slow day costs you more. Flat-rate pricing means the price is set before anyone arrives, based on the size of the home and the type of clean.

Follow-ups worth asking: Is the quote the final price? What makes it change? Are supplies included? Is GST extra? Is there a minimum?

At YQR Cleaning, pricing is flat-rate rather than hourly, starting at $120 + GST for a 1 bed / 1 bath, with each additional bathroom at $30. You can see your exact price online in about 30 seconds without talking to anyone first — get your price.

"Are You Insured and Bonded, and Do You Background-Check?"

These three things are separate, and all three matter.

Any company that takes this seriously will answer plainly. A vague answer or a change of subject is your answer. YQR Cleaning cleaners are insured, bonded and background-checked.

"What's Actually Included?"

"A clean" means different things to different companies, so get specific about the type of visit and the task list.

Standard clean — the recurring, maintenance-level visit: kitchen, bathrooms, floors, dusting and living areas.

Deep clean — more detailed and more time-intensive, and the right choice for a first visit or when it's been 30 days or more since the last one.

Move in / move out — an empty-home clean, usually done to a different standard because cupboards, closets and appliance interiors are all accessible and expected.

Then ask what sits outside the standard list and costs extra, so there's no surprise. At YQR Cleaning the common add-ons are inside the oven ($45), inside the fridge ($45), inside cabinets ($30), interior windows ($45), wet-wiping blinds ($55) and dishes ($25).

"Do I Need to Be Home?"

Plenty of people would rather not take time off work for a cleaning. Ask whether the company works with a lockbox or a key, how access is handled, and who has it.

The answer should be that you don't need to be home, and that there's a clear process for getting in and locking up. With YQR Cleaning, no — you don't need to be there. A lockbox or key arrangement works fine.

"When Do I Pay?"

Ask whether payment is due up front, on the day, or after the work is done. Paying after the clean means you've seen the result before any money changes hands, which is the arrangement that puts the risk in the right place. That's how YQR Cleaning does it.

"What Happens If Something Gets Missed?"

Everyone has an off day. What matters is what happens next.

Ask directly: if I'm not happy with something, what do you do? A real answer involves coming back and fixing it. At YQR Cleaning, if we miss something we'll come back and fix it free. Ask how long you have to raise it and how to get hold of someone — a phone number you can also text is a good sign.

"Who's Coming, and Will It Be the Same Person?"

Consistency makes a noticeable difference over time, because someone who has cleaned your house before knows which cupboard the vacuum lives in and which surface needs a second pass. Ask whether you'll generally see the same cleaner, and what happens when they're away.

"Do You Bring Supplies?"

Ask whether supplies and equipment are included or whether you're expected to have them ready. Cleaners who bring their own have what they need for each surface. YQR Cleaning cleaners bring all their own supplies.

If you have surfaces that need specific handling, or a product you'd prefer be used on something in particular, say so when you book rather than on the day.

"How Often Should I Book?"

Ask for a recommendation rather than a sales pitch, and expect it to depend on the size of the household, whether there are pets, and how much traffic the house sees.

Most Regina homes land on every two weeks or every four. There's a pricing reason too: at YQR Cleaning, every 2 weeks saves 10% and every 4 weeks saves 5% compared to a one-off visit. A one-time clean is still a perfectly reasonable thing to book if that's what you need.

Two Local Things Worth Mentioning

A Regina-specific note or two when you book will make the first visit better.

Winter access. Say how the driveway and walk are handled, where boots go, and whether there's a spot for a coat. Cleaners arriving in February are coming in off salt and slush like everyone else.

Hard water. If your taps or shower glass have scale buildup, mention it. It's common here and it responds to being addressed deliberately rather than hoped away.
